### What does 2lingual Search do?

2lingual Search allows users to search for information in one language and receive results from websites written in another language. It automatically translates both search terms and results, making it easier to discover information that would otherwise remain hidden behind language barriers.

For OSINT practitioners, this means expanding research beyond English-language sources and uncovering local reporting, regional discussions, government publications, company information, and social media content from around the world.

**The lowdown**: While it won't replace native language expertise, it often provides great leads and helps identify sources that deserve further investigation.

### How to Use:

**1. Search as you normally would using your preferred language, then choose the target language or country language most relevant to your investigation. (E.g. English to Chinese).**

**2. Review and validate results by opening promising sources and verify information using native translation tools, reverse image searches, and local search engines.**

**Note:** Remember that machine translation can occasionally miss cultural context, slang, or nuanced meanings, so important findings should always be validated.

### Cookies:

2lingual itself appears to use minimal site-specific cookies, but because it relies on Google Search and Google Translate functionality, users may encounter several Google cookies relating to authentication, security, preferences, consent management, and search localisation. Investigators should be aware that logged-in Google sessions may influence search results and attribution.

### Use in Reporting

Common reporting uses include:

* Identifying foreign-language sources.
* Finding local news coverage.
* Discovering overseas business records.
* Locating regional discussion forums.
* Finding original reporting before it is translated by international media.
* Supporting geopolitical and threat intelligence assessments.
* Discovering local perspectives on global events.

| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Searches across language barriers, helping uncover foreign-language content that may not appear in standard searches. | Relies on machine translation which can sometimes misinterpret context, slang, or cultural nuances. |
| Supports international OSINT, due diligence, threat intelligence, and geopolitical investigations. | Does not verify the accuracy, credibility, or trustworthiness of discovered sources. |
| No account required allowing quick, accessible research. | Limited advanced search functionality compared to major search engines. |
| Simple interface with fast translation of both search queries and results. | Search results are dependent on the indexing and availability of underlying search providers. |
| Helps identify local news, regional sources, forums, and websites from other countries. | Cannot replace native-language expertise when conducting detailed analysis/reporting. |

### Summary

2lingual Search is best used in the collection phase of the OSINT workflow and while it should be viewed as a discovery tool rather than a translation authority, it can reveal valuable leads that might otherwise remain hidden.

### Ownership

2lingual Search was made by H.K. Tang in Seattle, Washington.

### Ethical Considerations

* Verify translated content before drawing conclusions.
* Avoid relying solely on machine translation for critical intelligence assessments.
* Respect copyright and attribution requirements when using foreign-language sources.
* Be mindful of cultural and linguistic nuances that may affect interpretation.
* Consider consulting native speakers when findings are significant or high-risk.
* Follow local laws and organisational policies when collecting and using information from international sources.
