### What does Behind the Email do?

Behind the Email searches for publicly accessible traces linked to an email address. Rather than revealing inbox contents or private information, it identifies where an email appears to have been registered or used online.

When you enter an email, the platform queries its sources live at search time. Returned signals can include LinkedIn employment history, education, and skills; linked profiles on Google, Microsoft, Teams, GitHub, and TikTok; Google Maps reviews and photos; names, profile pictures, and bios from services such as Gravatar, Flickr, VSCO, Etsy, and Duolingo.

Paid plans add bulk search, CSV export, downloadable reports, and REST API access for teams that need higher volume or automation.

**The lowdown:** It’s ideal when you have an email and need to quickly understand who may be behind it, which public accounts are linked to that address, and whether the address appears in known breaches.

### How to Use:

**1. Enter the email address you want to investigate into the search bar then review the returned services, websites and associated accounts where the email has been identified.**

**2. Use the findings to pivot into further investigation by searching usernames, domains, social media profiles, breach databases, WHOIS records or archived content to verify and expand your findings.**

* Corroborating professional and social claims tied to an email.
* Documenting linked public accounts and breach exposure in investigation notes.
* Enriching source background checks in fraud, impersonation, and due diligence reporting.

| Quickly identifies websites and services associated with an email address. | Only identifies publicly available information. |
| Generates new investigative leads from a single email identifier. | Coverage varies depending on the email address and available data. |
| Supports attribution and digital identity profiling. | Results may become outdated as accounts are deleted or privacy settings change. |
| Useful for pivoting into username, domain, and social media investigations. | Does not confirm ownership of discovered accounts. |
| Easy to use with minimal technical knowledge required. | False positives are possible and require independent verification. |

### Summary

Behind the Email is a straightforward email-enrichment tool that helps investigators understand where an email address has an online presence. It’s most valuable during the discovery and enumeration phase of the OSINT workflow where the results can then be used to pivot into social media analysis, username searches, breach intelligence, domain investigations and archived web content.

### Ownership

Not publicly disclosed but states it is based in the United States.

### Ethical Considerations

* All results come from publicly accessible sources, but public availability does not automatically justify collection, publication, or sharing.
* Subjects can claim their profile to opt out of search results; investigators should not attempt to circumvent opt-out or privacy controls.
* Only use for legitimate investigative purposes with a clear legal and editorial basis; do not use for harassment, stalking, doxxing, or unauthorized surveillance.
* Consider the potential impact of misidentification when reporting associations.
* Verify findings using multiple independent sources before reporting.
