### What does Blacklist Alert do?
Blacklist Alert is an online reputation-checking tool that queries dozens of public DNS-based blacklists (DNSBLs) to determine whether an IP address or domain has been listed for spam, malware distribution, phishing, botnet activity or other suspicious behaviour.
Rather than generating intelligence itself, it aggregates results from multiple blacklist providers into a single report, making it easy to identify infrastructure that may have a poor security reputation.
**The lowdown:** It provides a quick indication of whether digital infrastructure has previously been associated with malicious activity.
### How to Use:
**1. Enter a target IP address or domain. The tool checks the target against numerous public DNSBLs and displays whether it is currently listed.**
**2. Review results and see what positive results run alongside the specific blacklist names.**
**3. Click ‘see why’ to find out more information about the blacklist inclusion. Note: you will be directed to a third-party website.**
**4. Validate findings using additional reputation services (such as VirusTotal, AbuseIPDB or Shodan) before drawing conclusions, as listings may be temporary or relate to historical activity.**
