### What does Combat Aircraft do?

CombatAircraft.com is an online military aviation encyclopedia and information resource covering fighter/attack aircraft, bombers, transports, trainers, helicopters, special-purpose aircraft and UAVs. It provides aircraft specifications, operational information, imagery and operator information.

The site also provides military aviation news, articles, formations, national roundels and aircraft tactics information. Its operator pages can show the aircraft types associated with individual countries.

**The lowdown:** It’s an aircraft identification and military aviation reference tool that can help establish background context around a country's military aviation capabilities.

### How to Use:

**1. Identify the aircraft, country, operator or aviation-related subject you need to research. For example, we’re researching fighter/attack aircraft.**

**2. Search the site and review the relevant aircraft or operator page. Compare specifications, aircraft imagery, operators and other available information.**

**3. Record the relevant aircraft details, page URL and date accessed. For significant findings, corroborate the information with authoritative sources such as government, military, manufacturer or established aviation sources.**

### Use in Reporting

CombatAircraft.com can be used to:

* Identify military aircraft appearing in photographs, videos or other OSINT material.
* Research aircraft specifications, roles, characteristics and operational history.
* Investigate the aircraft operated by a particular country or military organisation.
* Corroborate aircraft identifications and military aviation findings using an additional reference source.
* Document aircraft type, manufacturer, operator, specifications and source URLs as supporting evidence.
* Support research into military aviation capabilities, deployments and aircraft-related incidents.
* Provide background context for aviation, defence and conflict-related investigations.

| **Capabilities** | **Limitations** |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Provides a large reference database covering multiple military aircraft categories. | It’s a secondary reference source and important findings should be independently corroborated. |
| Provides aircraft specifications, imagery and operational information. | Aircraft inventories and operator information may become outdated. |
| Provides country/operator pages showing aircraft associated with particular air forces. | Presence in the database does not necessarily confirm current operational service. |
| Includes military aviation news and original/author-contributed articles. | News content may aggregate material from other sources rather than represent primary reporting. |
| Useful for aircraft identification and comparison. | Identification from imagery should not rely on a single reference source. |
| Provides additional material on formations, roundels and aviation tactics. | Some site content, particularly older material, may contain historical rather than current information. |

### Summary

Combat Aircraft best fits within the identification, enrichment and verification stages of the OSINT workflow and is particularly useful when an investigator needs to determine what aircraft is visible, what role it performs, who operates the type, or what its technical characteristics are.

### Ownership

Founded and developed by Munnaf Joarder and Matt Young. No separate corporate owner is identified on the site's current [‘About’ page. ](https://combataircraft.com/about/)

### Ethical Considerations

* Do not assume that identifying an aircraft establishes its current location or operational status.
* Distinguish between historical operator information and confirmed current inventory.
* Be cautious when combining aircraft information with live-location data, imagery or other intelligence.
* Avoid using the site's information to facilitate targeting, harassment or other harmful activity.
* Respect copyright and attribution requirements when reproducing photographs, diagrams or other site content.
* Consider the security implications of publishing precise information about military activities when producing public-facing reports.
