| Use in Reporting | Useful for identifying public Discord communities associated with threat actors, extremist groups, online communities, gaming groups, cryptocurrency projects or other subjects of interest. |

### What does Disboard do?

Disboard is a public search engine for Discord servers. Rather than searching Discord directly, it indexes servers that have chosen to advertise publicly. Users can search using keywords, tags or categories to discover relevant communities and use these as entry points for further investigation.

**The lowdown:** It provides a simple way to identify publicly advertised Discord servers relevant to a person, group, topic or interest.

### How to Use:

**1. Visit**[ ](https://disboard.org/servers)**the site and search using relevant keywords, usernames, organisations or topics.**

### Cookies:

### Use in Reporting

Disboard can support reporting by:

* Identifying public Discord communities relevant to an investigation.
* Discovering communities associated with online groups or campaigns.
* Providing investigative leads for further Discord-based collection.
* Supporting assessments of community size, purpose and advertised interests.
* Identifying additional aliases, terminology or related communities for further investigation.

As an example, Researchers scraped thousands of publicly listed Disboard servers to map white supremacist, extremist and hateful communities on Discord. [The study](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/14614448211062548) demonstrated how Disboard can be used to identify communities through server descriptions, tags and invite links before conducting deeper analysis.

| **Capabilities** | **Limitations** |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Searches thousands of publicly listed Discord servers. | Only indexes Discord servers that have chosen to be publicly listed. |
| Supports keyword, category, and tag-based searching. | Does not search private, invite-only, or unlisted Discord communities. |
| Helps identify communities linked to threat actors, online movements, or emerging topics. | Search results depend on how accurately server owners describe and tag their communities. |
| Displays server descriptions, categories, and approximate member counts. | Member counts and descriptions may become outdated. |
| Provides invitation links to publicly accessible Discord servers. | Joining servers requires a Discord account and may expose investigator activity if OPSEC measures aren’t followed. |

### Summary

Disboard is particularly useful during the discovery phase of an investigation when attempting to identify public Discord communities linked to a topic, campaign, organisation or online persona. However, because only voluntarily listed servers appear in the index, it should not be considered a comprehensive search of Discord.

### Ownership

Disboard was originally owned and operated by an independent Japanese developer known publicly as Taki. The official company website for Disboard now lists the company as Disboard, Inc., with [Takeaki Onishi](https://www.linkedin.com/in/takeaki-onishi-6a0869395/) named as CEO.

### Ethical Considerations

* Only access servers that are publicly available or where you have authorised access.
* Respect Discord's Terms of Service and organisational policies during investigations.
* Consider OPSEC before joining communities, particularly those associated with criminal or extremist activity.
* Avoid interacting with community members unless authorised as part of an investigation.
* Verify information collected from Discord before drawing conclusions or making attribution decisions.
