| What it does | It uses AI image analysis to predict the geographic location of a photo (sometimes down to city or region level). |
| How to use it | Upload an image, let AI analyse it, and review likely locations with confidence scores. |
| Cost | Partially Free (limited free use, paid tiers for more access). |
| Account required | Yes.                                                                                                              |
| Cookies | Analytics and usage cookies. |
| Ownership | Developed by Graylark Technologies and founded by Daniel Heinen. |
| Use in Reporting | Can assist journalists in verifying where an image was taken, especially in conflict zones or breaking news. |

### What does GeoSpy do?

GeoSpy uses machine learning trained on large image datasets to recognise geographic patterns, such as building styles, vegetation, road markings, and landscape, to estimate a photo’s origin.

**The lowdown:** It’s essentially an AI version of what OSINT analysts do manually in tools like Google Earth or Google Maps.

### How to Use:

**1. Upload an image and wait for analysis.**

**2. Review suggested locations and cross-check with maps or satellite imagery.**

The tool can search for locations anywhere in the world, target precise street-level locations, as well as search for specific properties and buildings.

Note: Make sure to combine with other OSINT tools for verification.

### Cost

Limited free use. Paid tiers for more access.

## Data Processing

* [ ] No

### Cookies:

The site uses minimal analytics and usage cookies.

### Use in Reporting

GeoSpy can support:

* Verifying user-generated content (UGC).
* Identifying locations in conflict or crisis footage.
* Assisting investigations into misinformation.

There are also unverified reports that police departments in the USA have purchased access to GeoSpy for use in criminal investigations.

| **Capabilities**                      | **Limitations**                                        |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| AI-based image geolocation. | Not always accurate (can misidentify locations). |
| Fast analysis (seconds). | Struggles with indoor images and generic environments. |
| Works without metadata. | Requires human verification. |
| Suggests multiple possible locations. |

                                            |

### Summary

GeoSpy is a powerful AI-assisted geolocation tool that speeds up image analysis, best used in the geolocation and verification stage of the OSINT workflow. However, it should be used as a starting point, not definitive proof.

### Ownership

Owned by Graylark Technologies, co-founded by [Daniel Heinen](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dan-heinen/) (and his twin brothers); AI researcher, hacker, and entrepreneur.

### Ethical Considerations

* Risk of misuse for location tracking or privacy invasion.
* AI predictions may be over-trusted despite uncertainty.
* It’s important to avoid harm when identifying sensitive locations (e.g. private residences, conflict zones).

### Related Tools:

* Google Earth
* Google Maps
* Mapillary
* OpenStreetMap
