### What does LiveUAMap do?

LiveUAMap provides a near real-time visual overview of conflicts, security incidents, humanitarian crises, protests, natural disasters, and other significant events worldwide. Rather than producing original reporting, it aggregates information from news organisations, government statements, official social media accounts, and other publicly available sources, displaying incidents as map markers linked to their cited source.

**The lowdown:** It helps analysts identify emerging events by providing rapid situational awareness.

### How to Use:

**1. Search for the country, city, or region of interest using the search bar or navigate directly to a place of interest on the interactive map.**

**Note:** A lot of third-party adverts may pop up during your search which can get a little frustrating.

**2. Filter events by date, category (e.g., military activity, explosions, protests, disasters), or geographic area to narrow the results.**

**3. Select individual map markers to read the event summary, review timestamps, and follow links to the original reporting source for verification.**

### Use in Reporting

LiveUAMap is particularly useful during the early stages of breaking news or conflict reporting when you need to build situational awareness quickly. It helps identify where incidents are occurring, establish an initial timeline, and locate original reporting for further verification.

Typical reporting uses include:

* Monitoring conflict developments across multiple regions in near real time.
* Identifying the approximate location of reported incidents for geospatial analysis.
* Building incident timelines by reviewing chronologically mapped updates.
* Discovering original news articles, official statements, or social media posts linked from map entries.
* Supporting verification workflows by identifying corroborating reports before conducting deeper OSINT analysis.

[Reuters Institute](https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/news/15-tips-investigating-war-crimes-ukraine-and-beyond) specifically recommends LiveUAMap as a good starting point for obtaining coordinates before conducting deeper verification using Google Earth and Sentinel Hub.

### Summary

LiveUAMap is best suited to the collection and initial triage stages of the OSINT workflow, helping analysts identify emerging events, develop preliminary timelines, and locate original reporting for subsequent verification.

Because it is an aggregation platform rather than a primary source, information should always be corroborated with official statements, reputable news organisations, satellite imagery, social media verification, or other independent OSINT sources before being relied upon in reporting.

### Ownership

### Ethical Considerations

* Treat LiveUAMap as an aggregation tool rather than a primary source.
* Verify significant claims using multiple independent sources before publication.
* Consider reporting delays, misinformation, and information operations during active conflicts.
* Avoid drawing conclusions based solely on map markers or single-source reports.
* Be mindful that sharing precise locations of sensitive incidents may have operational or humanitarian implications.
