### What does THINKPOL Reddit Search do?

THINKPOL Reddit Search provides a set of free Reddit OSINT tools backed by a private archive of over 30 billion Reddit posts and comments, including content that has since been deleted by users or removed by moderators.

The free tools include:

* Reddit User Lookup - a behavioural profile of any Reddit account from its full public history.
* View Deleted Reddit Posts - retrieve posts and comments removed from the live site that the archive captured before deletion.
* Subreddit Intelligence - who drives a community, its moderators, and trending content.
* Reddit Archive Search - full-text search across the archive, including deleted and removed content.

**The lowdown:** Because it relies on a historical archive rather than Reddit's live API, THINKPOL can return content that tools such as Reveddit and Pushshift-based services can no longer recover after Reddit's 2023 API changes. It is EU-hosted and GDPR-aligned.

### Use in Reporting

THINKPOL can be used to:

* Search historical Reddit posts and comments using keywords, phrases or other identifiers.
* Recover posts and comments that were subsequently deleted by their authors.
* Identify moderator-removed Reddit content that remains in the archive.
* Investigate historical activity associated with a Reddit username.
* Identify relevant subreddits, discussions and communities connected to an investigation.
* Build preliminary timelines from archived Reddit posts and comments.
* Investigate recurring phrases, handles, links or other identifiers across Reddit.
* Locate material that may have disappeared from the live Reddit platform.
* Cross-reference archived Reddit statements with contemporary news reports, websites, screenshots or primary sources.
* Preserve evidence of what was publicly posted at a particular point in time.
* Identify additional leads, usernames, organisations, websites or terminology for further research.
* Support investigations into online communities, fraud, cyber threats, disinformation, counterfeit activity and other forms of public online activity.

**Note:** The free search is suitable for individual searches, while the professional API is designed for larger-scale collection and integration into investigative or intelligence workflows.

| **Capabilities** | **Limitations** |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Searches more than 30 billion archived Reddit posts and comments. | The free browser tool only returns the top 10 results per query and is rate-limited. |
| Includes content subsequently deleted by users or removed by moderators. | Archived Reddit content is not automatically truthful or independently verified. |
| Archive extends back to 2005 according to THINKPOL. | Coverage depends on what THINKPOL successfully captured while content was publicly accessible. |
| Full-text searching can be performed across posts and comments. | Full Boolean filtering, date ranges, bulk results and exports require the broader access tier. |
| Professional API provides programmatic access to the archive. | Full API/archive access is contractual and paid rather than open self-service access. |
| Can support historical Reddit research that native Reddit search cannot perform. | A Reddit username does not by itself establish a real-world identity or prove account ownership. |

### Summary

THINKPOL Reddit Search is a historical Reddit OSINT and archive-search tool that provides access to material that may no longer be visible through Reddit's normal interface and is particularly useful during discovery and collection, when looking for historical Reddit material, deleted posts, removed comments, usernames, discussions or other leads.

It can also become especially valuable during verification, when you need to establish what was publicly posted at a particular point in time. However, archived content should be corroborated where the finding is significant.

### Ownership

THINKPOL is operated by THINKPOL SAS, based in Paris, France. The [company's website ](https://think-pol.com/about)states that THINKPOL was founded in 2024 by Mat Gillard and [Lucas Dominguez](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lucas-dominguez/). Gillard is identified as Co-Founder & CEO and Dominguez as Co-Founder & CTO.

The Reddit Search page explicitly states that THINKPOL is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Reddit Inc.

### Ethical Considerations

* Do not automatically identify an account holder. A username, writing style or collection of posts is not sufficient by itself to establish someone's real-world identity.
* Consider deletion context. Content may have been deleted for many reasons; deletion itself should not be presented as evidence of wrongdoing.
* Preserve provenance. Record the archive source, Reddit identifier, author, timestamp, subreddit and date accessed.
* Avoid unnecessary personal information. Archived material can contain usernames, locations, contact information and other personal data.
* Follow applicable law and platform rules. THINKPOL states that its professional archive is built around publicly accessible data and a stated legal basis, but investigators should independently assess the legal basis applicable to their own work.
